The difference between German (SV) and American (AKC) bred German shepherds
Probably one of the most misunderstood belief of the German Shepherd breed is that all lines are the same. People do not realize the lines are so different they should be called different breeds.
There are 3 lines of the breed, American line, European working line and West German Showlines.
One of the most common question ask is what is the difference between a German line and an American line German Shepherd. There is a vast difference between the two. Below I will explain some of the differences between the German Show lines, American Show lines and the European Working lines and I will show you a picture of all three.
High quality true German Shepherds. The American line Shepherds are not recognized in Germany since they have fallen so far away from the original Shepherds.Their temperament, drive, conformation, nerves, pigment, bone and work ethic do not compare to the German line Shepherds. Germany preserves not only the breed, but the quality in the breed by only breeding dogs that are show rated, schutzhund titled, breed surveyed and hip/elbow certified. A lot of time, money and careful breeding of specific bloodlines is put in the dogs to carry on the true German Shepherds. We as breeders follow the German standard
